English: Olakkaneeswary Temple on top of Mahishasuramardini cave which was the old light house and the new one built in 1900. Lights were used to aid mariners since the 7th century at this place. Mahabalipuram was a major port during the reign of the Pallavas. മലയാളം: മഹിഷാസുരമർദ്ദിനി ഗുഹയ്ക്കു മുകളിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഒലക്കണീശ്വരി ക്ഷേത്രവും (ഇതായിരുന്നു ഇവിടുത്തെ ആദ്യ വിളക്കുമാടം) 1900-ൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ച പുതിയ വിളക്കുമാടവും. 7-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ പല്ലവന്മാരുടെ കീഴിൽ മഹാബലിപുരം തിരക്കുള്ള തുറമുഖനഗരമായിരുന്നു. അക്കാലത്തും പാറയ്ക്കു മുകളിൽ തീ കൂട്ടിയും മറ്റും ഇവിടെ നാവികരെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന ദീപങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നുവത്രേ. |
