Summary

DescriptionMirza Sulayman besieges Kabul in 1556-1557, right half.jpg
English: Mirza Sulayman besieges Kabul in 1556-1557, right half

1st year of Akbar's reign 1556-1557: Siege of Kabul by Mirza Sulayman, right half. – While Akbar and Bairam Khan head towards the Siwaliks with their troops and continue the fight against Sikandar Shah Sur, Mirza Sulayman tries to take control of Kabul. He besieges the fortress, which Munʿim Khan, the governor of the city, has defended "with cannons and muskets". – Here, at the bottom of the picture, there are again instructions for the painters that should have been painted over. The fact that the line is even surrounded by a gold line clearly shows that there must have been a misunderstanding: the painter thought the line of instructions was part of the main text and highlighted it accordingly. Most of the artists at Akbar's court were Hindus and came from the tradition of the Devanagari script. Many of them were probably unable to read the Persian lines themselves.
