DescriptionKokkare Bellur Pelicans.jpg Kokkare Bellur, a small village off the Bengaluru-Mysore Highway near Maddur (famous for the Tiffin stop) in Mandya District of Karnataka is a very unique place. Spot-billed Pelican (Pelecanus philippensis) a globally threatened species, happily coexists with the villagers, roosting on the roofs and on trees all around and inside the village. The villagers on their side support, feed and zealously protect their winged neighbors. Here is a group of Pelican nesting on a tamarind (Tamarindus indica) tree.
