English: Julien Harneis:To reach Tongo we are required by UN security to take a UN military escort. We were escorted by two jeeps and a truck from the Madras Regiment, Indian Army. The journey that should take thirty minutes took an hour and a half because of the pace of the military. Twice we passed cars of international NGOs speeding along without escort. Arriving in a village surrounded by men with guns is an uncomfortable feeling.
Julien Harneis:I take it back, 3 days after this photo was taken one of our NGO partners car on the same road was stopped by armed men in uniform and the contents of their car was looted. UN escort not such a bad idea after all. |
