Bahasa Indonesia: Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser merupakan laboratorium alam yang kaya keanekaragaman hayati. Taman nasional ini merupakan habitat sebagian besar fauna, mulai dari mamalia, burung, reptil, ampibia, ikan, dan invertebrata.

Terdapat 380 spesies burung dan 205 spesies mamalia di sana. Sayang, beberapa faunanya masuk dalam daftar hewan yang dilindungi seperti orang utan Sumatera (Pongo abelii), harimau Sumatera (Panthera tigris), badak Sumatera (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), tapir (Tapirus indicus) dan gajah Sumatera (Elephas maximus sumatranus).

"Hutan hujan di dataran rendah Indonesia khususnya ekosistem Leuser merupakan sisa habitat terbaik di dunia untuk Gajah Sumatera yang terancam punah. Di hutan ini, gajah purba bermigrasi dan masih ada sekawanan gajah liar di Sumatera. Tapi, perkebunan sawit memecah belah ekosistem hutan dan memotong migrasi gajah, sehingga sulit bagi keluarga gajah untuk menemukan sumber makanan yang cukup dan air," tulis Leo (panggilan Leonardo Dicaprio), seperti dikutip dari fanpage pribadinya.
