Summary

Description
English: Gurdial Singh led the first major successful Indian expedition (of independent India) to Mt. Trisul in 1951. Mountaineer and historian Harish Kapadia has remarked, "It was when Gurdial Singh climbed Trisul in 1951 that the age of mountaineering for Indians began." On the summit, Singh performed the yoga pose shirshasana to offer prayers to the mountain, named after Lord Shiva's trident.
