The referendum offered the people of Goa a choice between continuing as a union territory or merging with the state of Maharashtra. The people of Goa voted against the merger and Goa continued to be a union territory. Dr. Jack de Sequeira, the then opposition leader played an important role and hence he is regarded as Father of the Opinion Poll In 1987, Goa became a full-fledged State of India.December 19, 1961, Goa liberated from Portugal who ruled Goa for about 450 years |
