English: Photograph taken by self (Dineshkannambadi) at Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu, Karnataka, India in July 2006. This garuda pillar, dated to around 1220 A.D., is a herostone (vira sasana) which glorifies Kuvara Lakshma, a general, minister and faithful body guard of Hoysala empire King Veera Ballala II. Around 1220 A.D, when his king died, Kuvara Lakshma and his wife Suggala Devi committed suicide out of affection and devotion toward their master.
