English: Gandhi Bhawan at the Panjab University in Chandigarh. A modernist building designed by Pierre Jeanneret, the lesser-known cousin of Le Corbusier. The building sits on a raised plinth in a large P-shaped shallow pool, with an angular and curved three-part pinwheel roof, designed to evoke a floating lotus flower. The white colour of the building was chosen so to contrast with the red of the Fine Arts Museum designed by Corbusier, visible on the right. Picture taken after an intense thunderstorm during late monsoon, when the pool was filled with rainwater. |
