Description
English: The Women's Auxiliary Corps (India) was the equivalent of Britain's Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS). Formed in May 1942, the WAC(I) served in auxiliary roles as typists, drivers and switchboard operators and could be posted anywhere the Indian Army or Air Force were posted. It was disbanded in 1947 at the same time India achieved independence from British rule. From an album of photographs compiled by Field Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck, showing his visits to various units of the British and Indian Army, 1946-1947.
