Summary

DescriptionDefeat and escape of Mirza Sulayman in 1546.png
English: Defeat and escape of Mirza Sulayman in 1546

  • Defeat and flight of Mīrzā Sulaimān. – Mīrzā Sulaimān's (1514–1589) father Khān Mīrzā was a cousin of Bābur and a fifth-generation descendant of Tīmūr.
  • "The Bābur-nāma probes the impact of the last Tīmūrids on Badakhshan, particularly the role of Bābur pādshāh and his son Humāyūn (d. 963/1556). Likewise, it provides background information about the rule of Humāyūn and the rise to power in Badakhshan of Sulaymān Mīrzā, the son of Mīrzā Khān known as Sulṭān Uways Mīrzā." p.14 Son of Sultan Nigar Khanum, daughter to Yunus Khan.
  • After Khān Mīzā's death in 1520, Bābur took over his dominion of Badakhshan and later had it administered by Humāyūn. When the latter left his post without permission in June 1529, Bābur sent Mīrzā Sulaimān, who was now fifteen years old, there. In the decades that followed, Mīrzā Sulaimān repeatedly tried to free himself from Humāyūn's and later Akbar's rule and to extend his influence to Kabul. While Humāyūn, with the help of Shah Tahmāsp, re-established himself in Qandahar and later in Kabul, Mīrzā Sulaimān showed his independence all too openly, became militarily active and even had the Khutba read in his name. In March 1546, Humāyūn was again able to intervene militarily. – According to the inscription, the illustration shows the Mughal army in its victory over Mīrzā Sulaimān and his escape.
