Summary
Description9th century Bhand Deul Jain brick temple, Arang Chhattisgarh.jpg |
English: Arang, Chhattisgarh is a small town east of Raipur near Mahanadi river. The region is home to many 7th to 9th century Hindu and Jain temples. They are typically made of brick or stone or a combination.
The Bhand Deul Jain temple in Arang is made of brick, though the statues of Tirthankaras inside is made of rock. The brick is intricately carved which has weathered over time. The temple also shows signs of intentional damage. The carvings show kama scenes, dancers and musicians. The lower layers have rows of horses and elephants. It was likely built in the 9th century during the Haihaya dynasty. |
