Summary

Description2000- Portion of people affected by polluted air (US).svg
English: Chart showing percentage of people in the United States who are affected by bad air quality "with F grades
  • Data source: Dennis, Brady; Noll, Ben (22 April 2026). "More Americans are exposed to polluted air in the United States. See where". The Washington Post.
  • Source states: "Percentages determined according to current standards Source: American Lung Association State of the Air 2026"
  • Source intro: "An estimated 33.5 million children in the United States — or nearly half of people under 18 — live in an area that received a failing grade for at least one measure of air pollution."
  • Source explains: "The report grades air quality in counties around the country based on two of the most widespread and dangerous pollutants: ground-level ozone, or smog, and fine particulate-matter air pollution, also known as soot."
  • Technical note: the SVG code for the grid axes was automatically generated by the "Line charts" spreadsheet linked at User:RCraig09/Excel to XML for SVG. Data lines were "traced" using Inkscape. Additions and adjustments were made in a text editor.
