Summary

Description0111921 Hori Ki Marhia Group of temples, Thubon Madhya Pradesh 062.jpg
English: The Hori ki marhia group is one of several ASI protected sites in Thubon. It once had several temples, but only two mandapika-style temples survive, of which one for Vishnu (Hari) is reasonably well preserved.

The Vishnu temple stands on a jagati (platform). It has a four-pillared mandapa and garbhagriya. The sanctum's lintel has Vishnu with Garuda on the lalatabimba, flanked by Brahma and Shiva. Other artwork on the doorway to the sanctum includes Saptamatrikas and Ganesha, Balarama, mithuna (amorous couples), vyalas, Ganga, Yamuna, and a few reliefs that are too mutilated to be identified. The original statue inside this temple is lost. The mandapa is surrounded by a kakshasana wall on three sides (benches for seating or placement of a visitor's items). The outer walls of the temple feature reliefs of Vishnu, Nri-Varaha (anthropomorphic version of Varaha), Gajendramoksha legend, Ganesha, Agni, Vayu and other Hindu deities.

The second temple is also a mandapika-style Hindu temple. It is much simpler.
