עברית: אניית השלום נרכשה בהולנד בשנת 1973. ההגה הוא שנווט את הספינה אל מול חופי תל אביב שם עגנה במים הבינלאומיים, וממנה שידר "ספן השלום", אייבי נתן וצוות שדרניו המתנדבים את "קול השלום"; שהיה קול ייחודי שקרא לפיוס, אחווה ושלום, מלווה במוסיקה צעירה וטובה, לאורך עשרים שנה.

בשנת 1966, במבצע נועז, טס אייבי למצרים במטוסו הפרטי ("שלום "1) כדי לעורר הד פנימי ובינלאומי בצורך הדחוף בהידברות ושלום בין עמי האזור. אייבי יזם מפגשים עם פלשתינאים לשיחות קרבה ושלום כאשר מפגשים אלה עוד היו בגדר איסור. על כך שילם מחירים אישיים כולל ישיבה בכלא ישראלי. באחת משעותיו הכלכליות הקשות והמאיישות כאשר המימון להפעלת האנייה וצוותה אזל, נקט אייבי בצעד הפגנתי קיצוני והטביע את אניית השלום במימי הים התיכון; הוא לא שעה לבקשות ידידים להפוך את האנייה למוזיאון, או לתרום אותה למטרות נכונות. אם היא לא ממשיכה לשדר אין לה זכות קיום. דינה נחרץ לטביעה... אייבי אסף ושמר לעצמו ולמען ההיסטוריה מספר פריטים מהאנייה שהייתה לסמל, ביניהם את הגה האנייה.

קוטר ההגה כ-135 ס"מ והוא בעל 8 זרועות היוצאות ממרכז עשוי ברזל יצוק אל חישוק פנימי רחב וממנו אל חישוק חיצוני דק יותר העטוף בחלקו בסרט פלסטיק דק (לאבטחת האחיזה כנראה). ההגה עשוי משני סוגי עץ מעובד ומעוצב, ברזל יצוק ונחושת.
