microG (styled in microG) is a free and open-source implementation of proprietary Google libraries, designed as a privacy-focused alternative to Google Play Services on the Android operating system. The project is maintained by German developer Marvin Wißfeld, who describes microG as "a framework comprising libraries, services, and patches to create a fully compatible Android distribution without any proprietary Google components."

When Google released the Android operating system as open-source software in 2007, the company later integrated proprietary components into the platform as Android gained widespread adoption. In response, Wißfeld launched the NOGAPPS project in 2012, offering a free and open-source replacement for Google Play Services—a closed-source system pre-installed on nearly all Android devices. By 2016, NOGAPPS evolved into microG, expanding its functionality while maintaining a focus on user privacy.

microG enables Android applications to access replica APIs that replicate core Google Play Services functionalities, including those for Google Play, Google Maps, geolocation, and messaging. Unlike Google Play Services, microG does not engage in user tracking by default, and users can selectively enable or disable specific API features. However, certain apps may still transmit user data to Google if they include embedded tracking mechanisms.
