Justice for Jeni is a 2026 Indian Tamil-language drama thriller film written and directed by Santhosh Ryan and produced by Syed Thameen under the banner Asna Creations.[1] The film stars Ashika Asokan and Sandhra Anil in the lead roles, alongside Hareesh Peradi, Nizhalgal Ravi, Rekha, Sinan, Aishwarya KS and Bittu Thomas Mappillassery in supporting roles.[2]

Inspired by a real-life criminal case, the film follows a medical student's pursuit of justice following the murder of her close friend.[3][4] It was released theatrically on 2 January 2026.[5]

Jeni and Priyanka are close friends pursuing medical studies. Their lives are shattered when Jeni becomes the victim of a violent crime. Determined to seek justice for her friend, Priyanka joins the investigation and pursues legal action against those responsible. As the case progresses from police investigation to courtroom proceedings, she confronts institutional challenges while uncovering the circumstances surrounding Jeni's death.

Production[edit | edit source]

The film was written and directed by Santhosh Ryan and produced by Syed Thameen under the banner Asna Creations.[6] Masood TP and Saravanan served as executive producers.[7] It was inspired by a real criminal case involving the murder of a medical student and its subsequent legal proceedings.[8][9]

The film combines elements of an investigative thriller and courtroom drama, focusing on the investigation and judicial proceedings arising from the case.[10] Principal photography was completed in Tamil Nadu. Cinematography was handled by Veeramani, while editing was carried out by Sandeep Nandhakumar.[11]

Music[edit | edit source]

The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Goutham Vincent.[12] Promotional singles released ahead of the film's theatrical release included "Kanavugalum Ninaivugalil" and "En Thozhiye".[13]

The soundtrack formed part of the film's promotional campaign, with songs and promotional videos released before the theatrical premiere.[14]

The audio launch and trailer release event was held in Chennai ahead of the film's theatrical release and was attended by members of the cast and crew, along with personalities from the Tamil film industry.[15][16][17]

The official trailer was released in December 2025 through digital platforms ahead of the theatrical release.[18][19]

The film was released theatrically on 2 January 2026. Prior to its release, it received an A (Adults Only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.[20][21]

Reception[edit | edit source]

Maalai Malar gave the film a positive review, praising the performances, courtroom sequences and socially relevant subject. The review also commended Santhosh Ryan's direction for presenting the story in an engaging manner while highlighting Veeramani's cinematography and Goutham Vincent's background score as strengths of the film.[22]

ABP Nadu highlighted the attention received by actress Aishwarya KS for her portrayal of a police officer following the film's release, noting that the role increased her visibility among Tamil cinema audiences.[23]

Box office[edit | edit source]

According to Media Hindustan, the film was produced on an estimated budget of ₹4 crore. The publication estimated that the film collected approximately ₹0.45 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day.[24]
