Meaning of the word "nishan" (Punjabi ਨੀਸਾਣੁ neeshaaṇ meaning sign, mark, insignia of approval, spelled in Gurbani as ਨੀਸਾਣੁ, and colloquially as ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ): nishan/nisan/neeshan, a signature/autograph of the Sikh gurus or other prominent Sikhs, often by scribing the Mul Mantar [perhaps as some sort of authentication measure of the specific manuscript it is written in] but not always being the Mul Mantar.
