Template:Infobox given name2 Amit is a Hindu and Jewish given name and a Jewish surname.

In Hindi, Amit (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist., means "infinite" or "boundless", Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) originates from the Sanskrit word amita (अमित:),[1] amita (अमित:) essentially is the negation of mita (मित), which means "to measure".[1]

In Hebrew, Amit (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) means "friend", "colleague", ״peer”, or "member of the organization".[2] Though traditionally a common male name, it is being increasingly used as a female name in Israel. It is among the most popular names given to Jewish boys in Israel.[3][4]
