Lubanglong is a Rongmei village located in the Khoupum Valley of Noney district, Manipur, India. It consists of 145-200 households.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The name "Lubanglong" originally referred to a pine tree, and is commonly believed to have been derived from the pine trees that grow on the hilltops of the village.^{[citation needed]}

According to the 2011 Indian census, Lubanglong has a population size of 931, which includes: 479 males, 452 females, and 137 children aged 0–6 ( making 14.72% of the total population). There are 944 females per 1000 male in the village. The sex ratio in general caste is 250, and in schedule tribe is 949. There are 1,246 girls under 6 years of age per 1,000 boys of the same age in the village. Overall sex ratio in the village has increased by 63 females per 1,000 male during the years from 2001 to 2011. The child sex ratio here has increased by 579 girls per 1,000 boys during the same time.

The village is administrated by a Sarpanch (Head of Village), who is its elected representative.

Caste factor[edit | edit source]

In Lubanglong village, most of the population (99.46%) is the Schedule Tribe (ST). There is, however, no population of Schedule Caste (SC) in the village.^{[citation needed]}

Religion[edit | edit source]

98.99% of Lubanglong's population are Christian Baptists whilst the remaining population are TRC.^{[clarification needed]}^{[citation needed]}

Tourism[edit | edit source]

Tourist sites in Lubanglong include; Khouduang waterfall in the southern part of the village, the highest waterfall in the Lubanglong; Khukdai Cave about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from Lubanglong, a popular location for walks and picnics; and Khoupum Dam in the eastern part of Khoupum.^{[citation needed]}

Festivals[edit | edit source]

Christmas is one of the most important festivals in Lubanglong. During Christmas, people living around the region come together to celebrate the birth of Christ. As early as 1 December, people begin to prepare for the festival.^{[citation needed]} Gann Ngai festival takes place close to Christmas and is celebrated by a small part of the population who practice the TRC religion.^{[citation needed]}

Transport[edit | edit source]

There is no railway station in Lubanglong. Silchar is the closest major railway station to Lubanglong. The station at Jiribam is 127.2 kilometres (79.0 mi) away. The nearest airport is Tulihal International Airport at Imphal, 75.4 kilometres (46.9 mi) away.

Visitors can take the high-class Passenger Bolero, small vehicles like the Tata Sumo, or other transport from Bishnupur or Imphal. Transport services have improved considerably in recent times, reducing the travel time to two and a half hours.^{[citation needed]} Ongoing road construction will improve commuting facilities, enabling commuters to reach their destinations more quickly.^{[citation needed]}
