GiftstoIndia24x7 is an Indian e-commerce gifting platform founded in 1999 by Amit Desai.[2] Headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal,[2] it is one of the earliest online gifting stores in India[3] and specialises in delivering gifts to India for the non-resident Indian (NRI) diaspora.[4][5] The platform offers over 20,000 gifting options and operates a delivery network spanning more than 1,500 locations across India, including Tier II and Tier III markets.[4]

History

GiftstoIndia24x7 was established in 1999 by Amit Desai, who entered his family's greeting card business with the intention of expanding its distribution channel.[3] Anticipating that the rise of the internet and telecommunications would diminish the appeal of physical greeting cards, Desai set up the online gifting store as a forward-looking venture.[3] The company began as a greeting card manufacturing company and evolved into an e-commerce player, initially offering gifts such as flowers and cakes before expanding its catalogue to cover a wide range of occasions and relationships.[5]

By 2020, the platform had expanded its distribution channel to over 1,500 locations in India, extending its reach beyond metropolitan cities to Tier II and Tier III markets.[4] By 2021, it had served close to one million customers across the world.[5] As of 2022, the company's website stated that it delivers to over 3,000 cities and towns in India, with a catalogue of more than 20,000 gifts.[1]

Services and operations

The platform focuses on the gifting needs of NRIs, enabling them to send gifts to family and friends in India.[4][5] Its services include standard delivery as well as expedited options such as same-day delivery, delivery within four hours, and midnight delivery for select gift products.[4][6] The company operates a 24-hour customer service support system to assist users across different time zones.[4]

The gift catalogue includes items such as chocolates, flowers, greeting cards, Indian sweets, mugs, and photo frames, alongside personalised options like heart-shaped flower arrangements, personalised calendars, two-tier wedding cakes, beauty hampers, select experiences, and dining vouchers.[4] The platform allows users to browse gifts by occasion or by relationship.[6] A significant portion of its business is driven by Raksha Bandhan, and the company has noted a shift in consumer preferences toward one-stop platforms that allow customers to select Rakhis, complementary gifts, and delivery options through a single order.[7]

The company has maintained a long-standing partnership with PayPal, which has supported its ability to serve the Indian diaspora in the Middle East and Western markets.[5]
