Fact checking is the process of verifying the accuracy of factual claims made in a text, speech or report before or after it is published. Fact checkers compare claims against reliable sources and records, and point out errors, exaggerations and unsupported statements. Many news organisations and dedicated fact-checking services publish their findings so that readers can judge claims for themselves.
