Shree Shyam Mandir, Alambazar, popularly known among devotees as "Kolkata's Khatu Dham," , is a Hindu temple located at 113, Surya Sen Road, Alambazar, in the Baranagar area of North Kolkata, West Bengal, India.[1] The temple is primarily dedicated to Khatu Shyam Baba—a form of Barbarik revered widely across North India—and also houses shrines dedicated to Radha Krishna, Hanuman Ji, and the Shiva family.[2]

Khatu Shyam Baba is worshipped in Rajasthan and across India, especially among Marwari and Rajasthani diaspora communities who established regional shrines to facilitate regular worship outside the primary shrine at Khatu town in Sikar district, Rajasthan. Shree Shyam Mandir Alambazar was founded as part of this tradition. The initiative to construct the temple was led by Shri Govind Murari Agarwal, a devotee originally from Garoda village in Sikar district, Rajasthan, who later settled in Alambazar.[3] The Bhoomi Pujan took place on 16 May 2010, and structural work began on Akshaya Tritiya in 2013. The temple was crafted using Makrana marble by artisans from Rajasthan, adopting traditional Rajasthani architectural carving styles.[4]
The building was completed by early 2020,when by the divine grace of Shyam baba his sacred presence was ceremoniously shifted to the first-floor sanctum sanctorum, in a spiritually sublime ceremony filled with prayers ,devotion, and heartfelt reverence of thousands of devotees and reported to be adorned with silver fittings.[5]
Former Governor of West Bengal, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, visited the temple following its inauguration in 2020 and again during the Falgun Mela in 2021.The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, visited the temple on 18 April 2026 to offer prayers.[6]

The main sanctum of the temple houses the shrine of Baba Shyam,along with shrines dedicated to Radha and Krishna Ji Hanuman Ji, and the Shiva family.

The temple trust conducts several charitable and social initiatives:
- Blood donation camps.
- Free general health check-up and eye check-up camps.
- Seasonal blanket distribution drives.
- Daily twice community meal distribution(Bhandara).[7]
Temple timings[edit | edit source]
Shree Shyam Mandir Alambazar is open daily from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm.[8]
Special Observance[edit | edit source]
Ekadashi: Ekadashi Kirtan is organized from 5:30 PM onward on every Ekadashi.
Baras (Dwadashi): The temple remains open continuously throughout the day without the afternoon closure. Baras Jyot is held from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Major Festivals: The temple observes Krishna Janmashtami, Shree Shyam Janmotsav, and the annual Shree Shyam Falgun Utsav. The Phoolon ki Holi (flower Holi) is among the most widely attended celebrations. [3]
Falgun Mela: The three-day annual festival includes the Shri Shyam Akhand Jyoti Path and a ceremonial Nishan Yatra .[9]
