Mere Humsafar tells the story of Hala, a girl who is left by her father, who lives in London, at her uncles' home in Pakistan. There, she faces mistreatment, particularly from her paternal aunt, Shahjahan. However, things change when Shahjahan's son, Hamza, returns from abroad, marries her, and provides her with the respect she has longed for. The series received mixed reviews from viewers but is highly rated and has gained popularity in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the UAE.[1][2][3]
At the 22nd Lux Style Awards, the show garnered seven nominations, including Best TV Play and Best Ensemble Play, and it won the award for Best TV Original Soundtrack.[4]
ControversyEdit
Mere Humsafar faced criticism for its similarities to the 2011 series Humsafar.[5] Additionally, it sparked controversy and threats from Muslim extremists due to its portrayal of Hindu customs. In particular, a death sequence featured the cast dressed in white, which is a traditional practice associated with Hindu mourning rituals. This depiction raised discussions regarding the representation of different cultural and religious practices within the narrative of the series.[6][7]
