Narayan Seva Sansthan, established in 1985, is a non-profit charitable organisation based in Udaipur, Rajasthan. It is known for providing philanthropic services in the field of treatment and rehabilitation of polio affected people without discrimination of religion, region, caste, or gender.

History

Narayan Seva Sansthan was founded on 23 October 1985,with the help of donation from a Kolkata-based individual. At present it runs 13 hospitals for polio patients, as well as an international hospital for treatment of disabled by birth, where disabled persons from every corner of the world are being treated for free. It also runs a home named 'Apna Ghar', where about 200 orphans, many deaf or disabled, reside. They take care of Apna Ghar children's education. Till year 2018,it was operating two hospitals two hospitals (800 beds and 300 beds each), 30 centres, 20 physiotherapy centres, 49 branches abroad and preparing to emerge as one of the leading healthcare brands, that stands for ‘service’ and ‘care’. The sanstha working in the field of rehabilitating differently abled people from the under privileged and weaker segments of society and focussed on alleviation of disabilities and providing proper physical, social,financial and economic rehabilitation to them is now planning an ambitious plan of setting up hospitals, physiotherapy centres, skill development centres for differently abled persons and artificial multiple limbs workshops in each cities across the country under its brand to make them self dependant. These services to the patient and his dependants will be offered free of charge. Additionally in alignment with the mission and objective of promotion of Narayan Seva Sansthan as a healthcare brand standing up for ‘service’ and ‘cure’, the NGO is working on two other ambitious initiatives,named as “MyNeedHelp Project”,where it is compiling social data with service giving organisations (eg, on hospitals, ambulance services, dharamshalas, education, public transport and so on). This data will then be fed on an app and will be supported by a call centre to respond to commoner’s queries on these issues in vernacular languages,which will be ready in short time. The organisation is also creating a digital platform called punyapoint.org to recognise and award individuals and hidden people working on various social initiatives and aiming at giving them social recognition for their noble activities and encouraging and motivating others for such initiatives and will be also highlighted in various social media platforms. The organisation is also planning to create some smart villages for differently abled people with facilities like hospitals, schools, banks, post offices and other amenities and facilities, within campus.

In February,2021,under CSR initiative State Bank of India collaborated with Narayan Seva Sansthan (NSS) by offering a school bus for the differently-abled and deprived in Udaipur. The 32-seater bus will support differently abled individuals and needy for their education at the Narayan Children's Academy which is located at Narayan Seva Sansthan’s smart village. The smart village run by Narayan Seva Sansthan is meant to facilitate differently abled with all kinds of disabilities with friendly infrastructure and is a unique initiative. In its journey till year 2020,Narayan Seva Sansthan supported 418750 differently abled persons with successful operation and distributed 263000 people with three wheelers, 270000 people with wheelchairs, 290000 people with crutches, 351000 members with callipers among the weaker members.

Events

On 15 June 2014, it had organised a mass wedding event for disabled couples with polio. Held in the Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi, 92 couples were married, walking to the stage with there crotches visible!. celebrated 25th Divyang Vivah in New Delhi by Narayan Seva Sansthan. In February 2021,NSS also donated 11 lakhs for the construction of the Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya. The organisation also organises ramp walks and fashion shows with apparels made by the patients in their post treatment days and is planning to create a separate brand to sell these dress materials and use the generated revenue for additional welfare projects and upgradation of the facilities. The organisation has set up a similar facility in Uganda in east Africa with around 3000 beneficiaries and is looking to replicate the ideas in other places too.
