NAMTA response to 2023 Manipur ethnic violenceEdit

NAMTA had written to the National Commission for Women to report the cases of sexual violence against women in June 2023,[4] weeks before the devastating video showing two Kuki-Zomi women being stripped naked and paraded around by a mob went viral in social media.[5]

NAMTA join hands with Bay Area Activists to raise awareness of 2023 Manipur violence in the northeastern state of India. The protest was held on July 30 at Fremont, California in presence of renowned human rights activist like Pieter Friedrich and Shan Sankaran. The group also wrote letters to President Joe Biden, asking him to raise the issue to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit at the end of June. NAMTE also coordinated efforts with the Indian American Muslim Council, Hindus for Human Rights, as well as Indian Christian Organizations.[6]

Concerned by the state sponsored violence in Manipur,[7] NAMTA wrote a letter to World Bank president Ajay Banga, urging to pause funding for the Manipur Infotech Enabled Development Project.[8]
