Shah are a Jain and Hindu caste found in the Indian states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and cities like Mumbai.[1] Shah is short form for Shahryar - which is of Persian origin. Shah means 'very large' in Persian, and it was [when?] common practice to prefix "Sah" before a king's name. In Kumaon Sah are Vaisya and In Gharwal Shah is title used by Pawar rajput.
