One Heart- Many Breaks is Sandeep Kumar Mishra's debut autobiographical poetry collection, published in 2020 by Indian Poetry Review press[1]. The title gives a straight-on hint at the contents. From younger age till late forties,he has had so many disappointing relationship and experiences with his family members, friends and society in large plus his ill luck made him a failure at every aspect of his life. 'Sandeep uses his autobiographical poetry highlighting depression, love, mental illness, and other different personal emotions to illustrate what a full life looks like'[4]. It’s the diary of a broken heart which hasn’t lost its hope that one day things will pick up and will be better.
Structure
The book is divided in six chapters namely the Personal, Family, Society, The World, Nature, and The Universe with illustrations by the authors ten years old daughter Hetal Mishra. The poems in the book were written over a period of twenty years of his younger days till recent time. The book is about the relationship between the six aspects of human life which results in love and feelings for specific people and objects. They explore the range of emotions from happiness, anger, sadness, despair, and even love that a person experiences in their lifetime.
'You can say that this collection is the savings of my life,my emotions, feelings, and everything which a human being experiences in life'[5]. Every chapter gives a glimpse of a deep soul, tormented by painful feelings and observations.
Author's inspiration
As Mishra said these poems were written over a period of younger years of his life. He is very introvert[6] and shy, whenever he felt something not working right or he felt disappointed, he wrote about it in his diary. “It feels like poetry is where I am meeting up against that silence.”[7] When he had enough courage to publish about his private life, he got this book published by Indian Poetry Review in 2020.
