Mathew Thomas is an Indian actor who appears in Malayalam films.[1] He is known for portraying Franky in his debut movie Kumbalangi Nights and Jaison in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal.[2][3] He received the Vanitha Film Awards for best debut actor for Kumbalangi Nights and Asianet Film Awards for Best Star Pair (shared with Anaswara Rajan) for Thanneer Mathan Dinangal.

Early life

Mathew Thomas was born 16 October 2002 in Thiruvamkulam, Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. His father, Biju John Thuruthiyil, works as a Civil Engineer and his mother, Susan Mathew is a Mathematics teacher. Mathew's elder brother John Thomas is doing Masters in Social Work. Mathew did his schooling at Hagia Sophia Public School, Ernakulam. He also studied in Indian School, Manama, Bahrain for few years while his parents were employed there temporarily. Upon return, he joined Gregorian Public School Maradu Eranakulam from where he was auditioned for Kumbalangi Nights. Presently, he is doing his B.A in Communicative English at Chinmaya College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Tripunithura.[4][5]

Career

Mathew was auditioned for the role of Franky Napoleon in Kumbalangi Nights (2019) from his school. The story is about four orphaned siblings, among them, Franky is a high-school student who keeps their home up and running, as the other three are happy-go-lucky.[6] He lodged six months on location, undergoing several training sessions, such as swimming, football, casting a fishnet, rowing boat among others. The film was a critical and commercial success.[7] It was followed by the lead role in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019), a teenage romance film about a high-school student Jaison. It received highly positive reviews from both critics and audience. The film collected ₹55 crore at box office and become a block buster. He appeared in a cameo role as young Benjamin Louis in the crime thriller Anjaam Pathiraa (2020), which became a Box office Hit. He also acted a brief role in cyber crime thriller movie Operation Java .Then he played a supporting character in Mammootty starrer One.[8] His upcoming movie is Prakashan Parakkatte scheduled to release on June 2021.[9]
