Seema Bisla is an Indian wrestler. She is a bronze medalist at the Asian Wrestling Championships. She is scheduled to represent India at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.[1][2][3]
Career
She was eliminated in her first match in the women's 55 kg event at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. She also competed in the women's 50 kg event at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.[4] She lost her first match against Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan and she was then eliminated in her second match in the repechage by eventual bronze medalist Ekaterina Poleshchuk of Russia.[4]
In April 2021, she competed at the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Almaty, Kazakhstan hoping to qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.[5] She did not qualify at this tournament but, a few days later, she won the bronze medal in the women's 50 kg event at the 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships held in the same venue.[6][7] In May 2021, she qualified at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Sofia, Bulgaria to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics.[8][9]
After a close 2-1 win over European Championship bronze medallist Anna Lukasiak of Poland, Seema Bisla booked an Olympic berth for herself after showing tremendous defensive skills in the semifinal of the World Olympic Qualifiers.[10]
