Khichdi: The Movie is a 2010 Indian comedy film, directed by Aatish Kapadia. It is the first film by Hats Off Productions and stars Anang Desai, Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Nimisha Vakharia and Jamnadas Majethia in the lead roles. The film is based on the STAR India TV franchise Khichdi, which ran for three seasons titled Khichdi, Instant Khichdi and Khichdi Returns. It is the first film in the history of Hindi cinema to be based on a television series.^{[citation needed]}

Plot

Two Kids, Jacky and Chacky narrate the story of their family in a summer camp.

The god of knowledge visits the Parekh's consisting of the elder Babuji, his eldest son Praful, Praful's wife Hansa, Hansa's brother Himanshu and Praful's little brother's widowed wife Jayshree, Hansa and Praful's daughter Chacky and Jayshree's son Jacky. The Parekh's drive the god crazy and he runs back to heaven.

The Parekh's get informed that Hansa and Himanshu's father is on his deathbed. Before dying he states that his last wish is to fulfill Himashu's Dream. Himashu reveals that his dream is to have a legendary marriage. But after getting rejected by hundred's of brides, he falls in love with their neighbour's Parminder's daughter Parminder. The two get engaged. On the day of the wedding, Himanshu realises that his marriage is not legendary, as it lacks thrill and adventure. The Parekh's stall the wedding and try to turn the Parminder's against Himanshu so the two get broken up and then have a legendary reunion.

The Parekh's Decide to rob Parminder's close friend Chakku Singh's house, but discover that Chakku has been murdered and the police arrest Himanshu as the suspect. Parminder's father breaks the marriage but it is revealed that Parminder is marrying another groom tomorrow. During the court hearing, it is revealed that Chakku is alive and confesses that he committed suicide and Himanshu is released.

The Parekh's rush to Parminder's wedding. The Parminder's father sees the news and happily accepts Himanshu as his son-in-law.

Box office

The film performed well despite competition from such simultaneous releases as Siddharth Anand's Anjaana Anjaani.^[2] It grossed a total of₹62 million (US$870,000) during its entire theatrical run.^[3]
