Maurya was born on 2 January 1954 in Chakwadh, [[Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh|Pratapgarh]], [[Uttar Pradesh]] to Badlu Maurya. He is married to Shiva Maurya, with whom he has a son and a daughter. In March 2017, he is appointed as Cabinet Minister in [[Government of Uttar Pradesh|Uttar Pradesh Government]]. On 11 January 2022 , Swami gave a huge setback to [[Bhartiya Janta Party]] , by resigning from the post of cabinet minister of the  [[Yogi Adityanath ministry|Yogi Adityanath Ministry]] & as well as From BJP just before the assembly elections. After resignation, he joined the [[ Samajwadi Party ]] after meeting SP President [[Akhilesh Yadav]]. He said that BJP has done injustice to Almost all sections of Society i.e why he resigned. Another reason for his resignation is that he was told that he will not get a Mla Ticket from BJP for the Upcoming [[2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election|2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election]]. Along with him Almost 6 BJP MLAs have resigned from BJP. According to him he is the centre of Uttar Pradesh Politics. The hopes of winning the Assembly Elections of the [[Samajwadi Party]] has increased after his induction. The [[Bhartiya Janta Party]] will try to make him rejoin the party.

Maurya is a [[Buddhist]] and an [[Ambedkarite]], follower of [[B. R. Ambedkar]].
