Debanjali Lily

Debanjali Lily AKA Debanjali Chatterjee, born on 15th February 1992, is an Indian playback singer, composer and live stage performer. She is known for her performance and participation in music reality show Rising Star (Indian TV series), aired on Colors TV.^[1]

Early Life and EducationEdit

Born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, Debanjali grew up with a deep passion for music. Introduced to devotional songs by her music enthusiast mother, she began her musical journey at age 10, studying Indian classical music under the guidance of All India Radio Lt. Smt. Gopa Sanyal. Further refining her skills, Debanjali received guidance from esteemed figures like Lt. Sri Ashish Saha of the Indore Gharana and Sri Krishnendu Bhattacharya. She also achieved academic excellence, earning a first-class master's degree in economics from the University of Calcutta. She worked with reputed global consultancy firm Frost and Sullivan for 5 years and continued her musical endeavours alongside her day job until she decided to pursue her music career full time in 2017.^[1]

AwardsEdit

Winner of 6th Bengal Youth Award in the category Rising Star in Music in 2018. Debanjali was handed over the award by National Award winner Iman Chakraborty.

PlaybackEdit

Debanjali marked her entry into playback singing with the debut track Ghum Bhanga Shokal for the Bengali film Colkatay Columbus, composed by music director Neel Dutt. Her journey continued as she lent her melodious voice to other Bengali films. She also contributed her vocals to numerous popular Bengali TV series in India and Bangladesh, including Rojgere Ginni, Tomay Amay Mile, Bhoomikanya, Khirer Putul, Shaheber Chithi, Maan Obhiman.^[2] Notably, Debanjali's voice graced jingles for esteemed brands like PC Chandra Jewellers, Merlin Group, Sunrise Posto, Fiza Biscuits, and Tufcon. In 2023, she sung the song Villa Wala Pyaar^[3] composed by EPR Iyer and written by Wicked Sunny for a music video in the reality show MTV Splitsvilla (season 14) featuring fashion icon Urfi Javed.

Independent MusicEdit

Beyond her playback endeavors, Debanjali exhibits a fervent interest in composing original songs and collaborating with esteemed artists to craft unique compositions. Notable among her original creations are Bohe Baayu^[4] and Agomonir Ahobaan. Her artistic collaborations extend to distinguished music producers from the Bengal music community, including Shamik Guha Roy, Buti Banerjee, and Abhirup Biswas, resulting in a collection of captivating original works in her signature voice.^[5]

Debanjali's creative endeavors extend to her engaging series titled Sunday Jam with Debanjali Lily, showcased on her YouTube channel, earning her affection and admiration. A remarkable milestone in her online presence is her rendition of Montare from the movie Lootera, which went viral amassing millions of views and shares across various social media platforms, reflecting her resonance with a global audience.

Live PerformerEdit

Debanjali has enchanted her audience in India and abroad with her live performances. She has performed for several reputed brands including Ambuja, Captain TMT, Audi, Bisk Farm, Manyavar and so on. She performs with her band, Debanjali Lily Live. She also performs as a musical duo in collaboration with guitarist and music producer Abhirup Biswas who is well known for his ex bands Cactus (Indian band) and Prachir.
