Vikas Gupta (born 11 June 1970) is an Indian political activist who serves as the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Council of Agricultural Research (UPCAR).[1][2][3] He is a member of Bhartiya Janta Party.[4]

Early life and education[edit]

Gupta was born on 11 June 1970 to Rajendra Kumar Gupta at Bharthana tehsil, Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh.[1][2] Both of his grandfathers (paternal & maternal) were freedom fighters.[5] He received his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Lucknow's Institute of Engineering and Technology in 1993.[1][2]

Career[edit]

He started his career at Lohia Machines Limited in Kanpur and then joined the Indian Army as a commissioned officer in 1994. He was also part of the Prime Minister's security team from 1997 to 1999.[2]

In 2001, he joined the Indian Revenue Service after passing the Union Public Service Commission Exam. He served in the Central Board of Excise & Customs in New Delhi before resigning in 2007.[2] He is Patron of International Human Rights Commission India.[6]

He was appointed as the Chairman of the U.P. Council of Agricultural Research on 11 March 2019.[7][8]
