Cine & Artistes’ Association

Cine & TV Artistes’ Association commonly known as CINTAA is an association based in Mumbai, India. It was founded in 1958 as Cine Artistes’ Association and later in 1997, the name was changed to Cine & TV Artistes’ Association after the advent of Television and private channels.

History

The moment of forming the association started in 1939, and the Film Artists' Association of India was formed the same year and later the name was changed to Cine & TV Artists' Association. The first president of the association was Sohrab Modi. It is governed by an executive committee. The association is an autonomous body registered under the Indian Trade Union Act.

Film Artists's Guild formation

In 1954, the name of the association was changed to Film Artists's Guild. A meeting was held at Indian film actor and director Manmohan Krishna's resident in February 1958, which was attended by various artists and in the said meeting Character Artists' Association was formed. It was registered under Registrar of Trade Union and it was affiliated to Federation of Western India Cinema Employees. In the first year of its formation, nearly 95 members were enrolled and Murad H.A. was the first president.

Controversies

In 2019, TV actress Shilpa Shinde accused the association of sabotaging her career. Shinde along with former CINTAA member alleged that the committee charges ₹35,000 as membership fees, which is ₹5,000 more, as opposed to the agreed charges of 30,000. She further claimed that CINTAA always turned a deaf ear to complaints regarding serious issues but the general secretary and spokesperson of CINTAA dismissed Shilpa's charges and called them "baseless". He further added that:

"These are baseless allegations. Since the new committee has been formed I have received only one complaint from her which was that she was being harassed by the producers of her show. The producer, however, said she had stopped going for the shoot. She got her raise thrice and in fact was under the exclusivity contract since day one. I don't know what the fuss is about"
