Background
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Kandla Port Trust (KPT) will go ahead and build and operate ports overseas. A new company, India Ports Global Ltd (IPG), will be jointly held by the two ports.[2]
India Ports Global's first project is development and operation of Chabahar Port will be in Iran. The Central government is veering around to the view that it should utilise India Ports Global Ltd to own and run ports secured overseas on government-to-government (G2G) basis.[3]
Operation
- Chabahar port - India Allocates Just Over $12m to development of Chabahar port in 2023-24 Budget.[4]India has committed grant aid of $85 million and a credit facility of $150 million for developing Shahid Beheshti terminal at Chabahar Port.
