Lubana (Also pronounces as Lubana, Labana,Lavana,Lubhana) is a tribe that lives in and around Indian subcontinent. Basically,Labana is Trader Merchant and Transportation community engaged in Maritime trade and Land Trade which includes Trading and transportation of Goods like Saltpetre, Silk, Diamonds etc. In Punjab Region, during socio-economic reforms,Labanas overwhelmingly became agriculturists. Labanas have their own dialect called "Lubanki" which is said to be mixture of Marwari, Saraiki, Gujarati, and Marathi. The Labanas of Punjab and Haryana are mostly Sikhs and speak mainly Punjabi or Hindi. They are also called lohana (in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. [[Lavana][1] ]s.[2]
Origin
Acc. to Gurmat Parkash, Magazine by SGPC, Lobana means who wear Iron Dress, i.e dress of Military person. They have mainly Five names:-
- 1) Kshatriya :- Before Lavana means before son of Rama Born They belong to Ikshwaku Dynasty. From where Kashyap , Ajarawat, Ajarot,
Multani, Sandlas,Kundlas , Koulas surnames starts in Labana Dynasty.
- 2) Lavana- Which means Lineage of Lava son of Rama, and to descend from the Lunar and Raghuvanshi dynasty.
- 3) Nayak Rajput- Used for the head of the Labana members and ruler of labana.
- 4) Lohbana- Who used to wear Iron Dress (dress of Military person, derived from Loh & Bana) and master of swords in battle field.
- 5) Vanjara/Lubana- Used to trade of saltpetre and Daimonds across the world.
Mythology
Labana (sometimes also Lubana, Lavana ) is a social and ethnic group in India. It is a Big landholding community whose members were traditionally civil contractors ,and merchants who are now agriculturists. Lobanas are residing in and around India from ancient times. People of Labanas are basically Rajputs offshot of Ikshwakus of Ramayana. In 1891 Census, they were categorized under Rajputs and are descendents of Suryavanshi and Chandarvanshi Kashatriyas.
