The Karanja Port, in Maharashtra's Raigad district is spread over 200 acres and has access to state and national highways. It is located near Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Karanja will hope to ease some of the pressure from its larger peer, which is the largest in the country.[1]
History
In 2014,SKIL Ports and Logistics plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore to build a multipurpose terminal at Karanja near here over the next two years. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid the foundation stone for the port today. According to an official release, it would be built at an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.[2]
Description
The port is constructed by Mercantile Ports and Logistics[3]
The finished port will occupy around 200 acres, with a kilometre-long quay and planned links to India’s largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru and the existing Mumbai Port. Aside from containers, details of the port’s cargo mix and capacity have yet to emerge.The Port would have a sea frontage of 1,000 metres.[4]
Collaboration
Mercantile Ports and Logistics Ltd (LSE:MPL) shares jumped over 10% higher in Thursday morning trade on news its subsidiary has entered into a five-year contract with Lucky Marine Shipping & Logistics PVT Ltd for container handling services at the Karanja facility in Navi Mumbai, India.[5]
