The Municipal flag of East Jerusalem (in Arabic نجمة القدس), was based on the State Flag of Palestine. According to traditional official description, the red stands for unity and the bloodshed of martyrs, the white for peace and a bright future, and the black for the dark past. At the centre is a Green Islamic Octagram or Al-Quds star centred within the white centre bar respectively.[1]
