Virk (also spelled as Birk and Wirk) is a Suryavanshi Kshatriya Rajput Clan and Jat clan of the Punjab region.[1]

History

Virk (also spelled as Birk or Wirk) are Suryavanshi Kshatriyas clan.

Virks are Suryavanshi Rajputs and they are mentioned in Mahabharata as “Vrika Rajputs” or “Vrika Raja-putra” means “Son of King” or “Son of Warrior” or famoulsy known as “Son of Wolfs”. Vrikas are regarded as “Kshatriyas” or a “Warriors” in “Mahabharta” and they are brethren of Minhas Rajputs. Hence many people write their surnames as “Minhas-Virk”.

Virks have a history of more than 2000 years. Since they were mentioned in Mahabharata as “Vrika” Rajputs or “Vrika Warriors” or “Vrika Kshatriyas”.

Virks are descendants of Pandavas from therfore gotra “Virk” and hence they are Suryavanshi Rajput Clan.

Virks are known to be Kshatriyas as HarshVardhan Virk who defeated Huns in 400 AD.

Raja Yashodharman Virk who ruled the whole Northern and Central India in 200 BC.i.e.Kashmir,Sindh to Rajasthan and Central India (Madhya Pradesh).

Many Virks in 1500s have converted to Sikhism by the grace of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

In Kashmir Valley, “Varik or Warik” is an gotra of Kashmiri Pandits/Brahmins.

Virks are known to be directed descendants of Rama and hence they are Suryavanshi Kshatriyas.

Worlds oldest civilization in Mesopotamia called “Uruk/Warka” was 4000 years old. Known to be the country of Virks. In Greek history it was stated as “Hyrcania” or “Gurgaon” or “Verkana” or “Volka” or “country of wolf's”.

Many researchers have tried to find the the First Aryans of India and they were “Virks”.

Virks are known to be part of “Jutes” and “Scthyian” tribe.

Conclusion:- Virks are ancient Warrior clan.They are Suryavanshi Kshatriyas Rajput and Jat clan and gotra can also be found in Kashmiri Pandits or Kashmiri Brahmins.

Before 1947, many Virk clans lived in the Lahore, Sialkot and Sheikhupura regions of Punjab, British India. After Independence of India in 1947, Virk people of Sikh faith migrated [2]

Varik or Warik is an gotra of Kashmiri Pandits too.
