Bhartia Electric Steel Co. (later renamed as BESCO in 1993), is a leading manufacturer of Railway rolling stock and components including Wagons, Electric Multiple Units (EMU), Alloy steel railway castings (Bogies, Couplers, Draft Gears) and Friction parts. It is one of the largest manufacturers in India and serve as a one-stop solution provider to Indian Railways as well as the demand across the globe.[1]
History
Besco Limited (Wagon Division) is the flagship Company of the Tantia family and its incorporation dates back to 1922 as Pioneer Electric Steel Co. and was afterwards merged with British India Iron & Steel Company in the year 1928 to form Hukumchand Electric Steel Company Limited Subsequently in the year 1942, its name was changed to Bhartia Electric Steel Co. Ltd upon the Company being taken over by the Bhartia Family. In the year 1960, the Tantia Family took over the Company from the Bhartias' but retained the name to Bhartia Electric Steel Co. Ltd. until the year 1993 wherein the name was changed to BESCO Ltd. In the year 2006, the Company was vertically split into two divisions, namely, Besco Limited (Wagon Division) and Besco Limited (Foundry Division) with our founder Shri Om Prakash Tantia spear heading the Wagon Division.[2]
Products
BESCO primarily manufactures aluminum freight rakes.[3]
