★ Bharat Mitra
Tools for welcomes, warnings, speedy deletion nominations and reports

Bharat Mitra is an optional gadget that lets you do everyday editing and maintenance work from a single menu, in English dialogs, without leaving the page. It is built around English Bharatpedia's own policies and templates.

What it does[edit source]

Part Where it appears What it does
Welcome User and user talk pages Adds a welcome message at the end of a new user's talk page. For anonymous (IP) users the Welcome-anon template is used. There is also an option to add a personal message.
Warning User and user talk pages 10 types (vandalism, advertising, unsourced edits, personal attacks, harassment, copyright, test edits, point of view, page blanking, username), using the uw-* templates with levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 4im where the series offers them. It reads the warnings already on the talk page and automatically suggests the next level. The warning goes under this month's section.
Speedy deletion Article, file, template, category and redirect pages Tags the page with a db-* template chosen from the speedy deletion criteria and also notifies the creator.
Automatic links Article pages Suggests [[ ]] links for words in the text that have articles of their own. Headings, existing links, templates and references are not touched; only the first occurrence of each word is linked. The editor picks from the list which links are actually applied.
Report All pages Adds a report as a new section on the Bharatpedia:Administrators' noticeboard: vandalism, spam or advertising, offensive username, suspected sockpuppetry, a page protection request, or another administrator matter.
Revert / Undo All pages Reverts the most recent editor's consecutive edits with Rollback, or one chosen revision with Undo. When an old revision is opened from the history, a "Restore this revision" bar appears by itself at the top of the page, from which that revision can be made current with one confirmation.
Deletion discussion Article, file, template, category and redirect pages Puts the deletion notice on the page, creates a discussion page at Bharatpedia:Articles for deletion, adds the nomination to the day's log and notifies the creator.
Protection request All pages Sends a page protection request, with the level and duration, to Bharatpedia:Requests for page protection.
Redirect tools All pages Fixes double redirects in one go, changes the target of a redirect, and shows the list of broken redirects.
Block User pages (administrators only) Blocks a user with a duration, reason and options, and posts a notice on the talk page.
Batch delete All pages (administrators only) Deletes the pages in a list one by one at a slow pace; a stop facility is included.
Settings All pages Your preferences: the default warning level, the default for creator notification, and whether a preview is always required. Preferences are saved under your user page.

Safety rules[edit source]

  • Nothing happens without a preview and a confirmation. The preview is shown first; the edit is made only when you press "Confirm".
  • Every edit carries a clear edit summary, so the history shows what was done and why.
  • The wrong option never appears on the wrong page: the menu only offers options suited to the type of page.
  • Speedy deletion only nominates; deleting the page remains an administrator's job.

How to enable it[edit source]

This gadget is not switched on automatically for every user. To enable it:

  1. Open your preferences.
  2. Choose the Gadgets tab at the top.
  3. In the editing tools section, tick the checkbox next to Bharat Mitra.
  4. Press Save at the bottom.
  5. Reload any page. The ★ Bharat Mitra button will appear in the toolbar at the top of the page.

To turn it off, untick the same box and save.

Keep it always on (optional): You can also keep Bharat Mitra on permanently for your own account, without the Preferences checkbox. Open your common.js page, add this one line and save:

mw.loader.load( 'ext.gadget.BharatMitra' );

The gadget will then load for you on every page. To stop, remove the line again.

How to use it[edit source]

  1. On any page, press the ★ Bharat Mitra button.
  2. Choose the task from the list (for example "Warn" on a user talk page).
  3. Fill in the details in the window that opens and press Show preview.
  4. If the preview looks right, press Confirm. The edit will be made and a notice will be shown.

On mobile, if the button is not in the toolbar, you will find the blue ★ Bharat Mitra button at the bottom right of the page.
