Shahadat Hussain is an Indian materials scientist and researcher known for his work in additive manufacturing, architected materials, and shape memory alloys.[1] His research focuses on the development, fabrication, and characterization of advanced material systems using modern manufacturing technologies.
Early life and education
Hussain completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from UIT–RGPV, Bhopal.[2] He later pursued doctoral studies at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) while working at CSIR–Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (AMPRI), where he earned a PhD in Materials Science and Technology.[3]
Career
Hussain has worked in research roles across academic and scientific institutions.[4] His work spans additive manufacturing, metamaterials, and functional alloys, with a focus on understanding structure–property relationships in architected materials. He has contributed to projects involving laser powder bed fusion, polymer-based 3D printing, and the development of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures.[5]
His research includes mechanical testing, microstructural characterization, and phase transformation studies in advanced materials, particularly NiTi-based shape memory alloys.[6] He also presented his work at the ASME 2022 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE), where he authored a proceedings paper on NiTi TPMS structures fabricated via laser powder bed fusion.[7]
Research areas
Hussain’s research interests include:
- Additive manufacturing and 3D printing
- Metamaterials and architected lattice structures
- Shape memory alloys
- Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures
- Microstructural and mechanical characterization
- Data-driven approaches in materials science
Publications
Hussain has authored and co-authored research articles in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of materials science, additive manufacturing, and mechanical behavior of architected structures.[8] His work has been cited in studies related to metamaterials, functional alloys, and advanced manufacturing processes.[9]
