Dinesh Kumar also known as Dinesh Kumar Meel,[1] is a professor and dean of the school of chemical sciences at the Central University of Gujarat. Kumar has authored or co-authored over 90 articles in journals of international repute, three books, over seven dozen book chapters, and 70 presentations at national and international conferences.[2]
Early life and education
Kumar was born on July 15, 1979, in Khatushyamji, Rajasthan, into a Jat family and did his primary education in Mandha, Rajasthan.[1] Kumar completed his MSc in chemistry in 2002 and obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Rajasthan in 2006.[3]
Career
In 2007, Meel joined Banasthali Vidyapith as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2011.[4] In 2017, Meel joined the Central University of Gujarat as an associate professor and was later appointed as a professor in 2020. Currently, he holds the positions of professor and dean at the Central University of Gujarat.[5][6]

- Applications of Advanced Nanomaterials in Water Treatment. Published in 2022, this book provides comprehensive insights into the diverse applications of advanced nanomaterials in addressing water treatment challenges.[8]
- Plasmonic Nanosensors for Detection of Aqueous Toxic Metals. Published in 2022, this book delves into the advancements in plasmonic nanosensors and their applications in detecting and monitoring toxic metals in aqueous environments.[9]
Recognition
Meel was listed in the esteemed "World Top 2% of Scientists" list compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier in 2021 based on one-year impact (2020).[10]
In 2022 and 2023, Meel was again included in the list of the "World's Top 2% Scientists". Till now, Meel has appeared on this esteemed list three times.[3]

- Water Desalination and Challenges: The Middle East Perspective: A Review" (2013, co-authored with Manjula Nair) - Highly regarded article on the history of desalination, typical procedures include reverse osmosis and multistage flash distillation, and difficulties encountered in the Gulf region. highlights trends in water pre-treatment and integrated membrane systems while covering subjects like scaling and membrane fouling. highlights the necessity of alternate energy sources and outlines cost-saving possibilities. 171 times cited.[11]
- Recent progress in g-C3N4, TiO2 and ZnO based photocatalysts for dye degradation: The possibility of using semiconductor heterojunction systems to treat water contaminated by dyes is being investigated. Composites of semiconductor materials, as opposed to single-component photocatalysts (such as ZnO, TiO2, and ZrO2), provide greater stability and efficiency due to less electron-hole pair recombination and increased visible light absorption. The features of these materials work in concert to promote overall stability and photocatalytic activity for dye degradation utilizing renewable solar energy, including greater adsorption and charge carrier migration.[12]
