However, Maya's life turns upside down when she is identified as the heir to her father's main royal family after her horoscope matches with the qualities that the royal family was looking for. Greed and status makes her father look for ways to get rid of Appu who might stand as an obstacle and her Uncle then makes her hate Appu in order for her to marry someone from the royal family. Meanwhile, Appu, with his best friend Mani ([[Kalabhavan Mani]]), tries to win her back by disguising himself as Veerandra Varma, nephew of the King whom none of them have seen before, being the son of King's estranged sister Rani Padmini ([[Srividya|Sreevidya]]). In the meantime, the real Veerandra Varma ([[Biju Menon]]) arrives at the palace, on a mission to steal the royal crown. Veerendra Varma is a spoiled brat and a famous rogue in Delhi, earning him the title as Dilliwala Rajakumaran.


Appu is trying to convince Maya about his innocence, who is in preparation of adoption as a princess. However it is prevented in many ways. Her uncle soon successfully unveils the real Veerandran's plot to steal the crown along with Appu (who was trying to avoid so) and both are imprisoned in a room until the royal ceremonies get over.

However the family priest, under instigation of the King's sister Padmini, helps both to escape and stops the Padiyettam ceremonies half way. In front of everyone, Appu discloses his innocence and love towards Maya. The King who is convinced of Appu's love, offers him a choice: whether he wishes to marry ordinary Maya or Princess Maya with no restrictions. The story ends with Maya completing the Padiyettam ceremony and sitting on the throne while Appu crowns her as his Princess.

The Times of India rated 3.5 out of 5 stars and stated that the movie does try to explain alcoholism as a way of dealing with helplessness and how it can ruin one's credibility.[13] Rediff.com gave 3.5 out of 5: Bipin Chandran's screenplay discusses the ethical, moral and legal issues pertaining to such situations. There are elaborate court scenes that test our patience for two and a half hours. This is one of the fertile periods in Prithviraj's career and he makes it even better with this film. He has to be a breezily comic fellow in the first half that he does unpretentiously making this film yet another winner as far as his performance goes. He gets able support from Anoop Menon, Nedumudi Venu and Maniyanpilla Raju. Paavada can be called a decent effort only if we ignore the flaws.[14] Indiaglitz rated 4 out of 5 and said The story, screenplay and dialogues by Bipin Chandran deserves credit. Director Marthandan could capture the essence of the story and deliver a good narration. Background score was conventional. Editing and cinematography were good with the editing being sharp and camera angles very effective, especially the dramatic part involving Prithviraj and the fight sequences. Performances from Prithviraj, Anoop Menon and Nedumudi were outstanding. Prithviraj has proved his range with this cinema as he lives as Joy onscreen. Anoop Menon holds his own in a demanding character. Miya was adorable as Joy's wife. "Paavada" is sure to stay around for a long time for its one-liners and humour.[15]
