Subhash is a honest, newly appointed [[sub-inspector|SI]] in [[Chennai]]. He is sympathetic to the public's suffering and tries to improve their lives, but he hates dishonest, corrupt and arrogant people. These efforts sometimes conflict with the law and cause Subhash trouble with his superior, [[Inspector]] Muthukaruppan. One day, during a night patrol, Subhash argues with the [[Chief minister (India)|Chief Minister's]] son when he refuses to park his car at the checking place, and the Chief Minister's son shows his arrogance before trying to attack Subash. SI Chandran, Subash's supporter, intervenes in the argument and apologises to the Chief Minister's son on Subash's behalf, which enrages Subhash. As a consequence, Subash assaults the Chief Minister's son and his friends at a bar, without leaving any evidence.

Subhash is a sincere and determined new Sub-Inspector of the Police in Chennai. He resides with his father, mother, elder brother, his wife, and their twin daughters. He is all set to marry his fiancée, Anitha. He is new to his job and is assisted by Constable Ramadass and SSI Chandran. Subhash can not stand the suffering of the public and looks for ways to better their lives, and this often lands him in trouble with his superior, Inspector Muthukaruppan. Subhash got into an argument with the Chief Minister's son one day when he refused to park his car. Subhash tracked down CM's son and his friends at a club that night, brutally beating them before fleeing.Meanwhile, Subhash had hacked into the club's CCTV, so no evidence of the Chief Minister's son could be found.  


One day, Chandran and Subhash are called on to investigate the supposed suicide of a girl. On closer investigation, Subhash deduces that it was not a suicide and that she was murdered. While collecting evidence to support this, he came across a person called Abhijit (Bharath Raj), whose cell number was active near the place. On confronting Abhijit and his friends, Christy, Bhuvanesh, and Deepak, they reveal that they are all stoners from affluent families. Abhijit is the son of a well-known businessman, Bhuvan is the son of the District Collector of Tamil Nadu, Christy is the son of a gold merchant, and Deepak is the son of a well-known scientist.
Called to investigate a girl's suspected suicide, Subhash deduces that she was murdered and gathers evidence. He confronts Abhijith, a boy whose mobile phone was active near the crime scene, as well as Abhijith's friends, Christy, Bhuvanesh, and Deepak. The boys reveal that they are spoilt brats from affluent families and they had committed the [[rape]] and murder of several other girls, avoiding the consequences due to their parents' privilege. They show Subash a video of them doing drugs, raping and murdering the girl and many other women, as well. Subhash gets enraged, beats them up, and locks them in jail. When his superior, a corrupt Joint Commissioner Saarangan IPS, asks for the proof behind his accusations, he finds out that the phone had automatically deleted all the video files just as he was trying to unlock it. The four are released due to lack of evidence, and the influence of their respective fathers and Subhash is suspended. Abhijit and his friends vow revenge, and soon enough, when Subhash goes home, he finds his parents and brother's family dead. Only one of his nieces, Anusha, is left alive. Meanwhile, Saarangan is bribed with an expensive and luxurious [[Porsche Cayenne|Porsche Cayenne SUV car]] and reports the murder of Subhash's family as a fire accident at their new house. Dejected at his powerlessness even though he is a police officer, Subhash resigns and threatens Saarangan that he will avenge his family's death and will make sure that the four guys die mercilessly at the hands of their own fathers.

Subhash resigns, defiantly telling Saarangan that he will avenge his family by ensuring that the four boys die at the hands of their fathers. First, he kidnaps Bhuvan and locks him in a car with a mechanism that fills [[silane]] gas in it if anyone tries to open the door. Bhuvan's father accidentally opens the car door as he searches for his missing son, and Bhuvan is burnt alive in front of his father. Next, he kidnaps Deepak and Christy and keeps them at undisclosed locations. The police, in order to find the missing guys, try to unofficially arrest Subhash at gunpoint, but he triggers Muthukaruppan's pistol on purpose, resulting in his arrest and gaining unwanted public attention. With increasing media and political attention, Saarangan and the rich fathers are unable to carry out extreme measures of interrogation on Subhash, though he is in custody.  
Subhash then kidnaps Deepak and Christy and hides them. The corrupt police try to detain Subash secretly, but he triggers Muthukaruppan's pistol, which attracts public attention and forces them to arrest him officially. While in custody, Subhash reveals to Christy's father that Christy is in a van at the airport. The father finds Christy and tells him to run to the police for help, but Subhash had placed an illegal firearm in Christy's bag along with a beeping device. The [[National Security Guard|National Security Guards]] mistake Christy for a terrorist and fatally shoot him. With technical help from Subhash's friend, Deepak's crimes are exposed on the Internet, and a live video feed shows him inside a glass tank.


Subhash then reveals to all of them that he kept Christy in a van and asks him to go to the airport, but Christy's father double crosses Subhash and asks him to run for help, thinking that Christy is safe when the police and the public are nearby. Before Christy could do so, an auto-loaded gun in his bag started beeping, and Christy, assumed to be a terrorist, was brutally shot and killed by the Paramilitary Force (CISF) soldiers to safeguard the public. After this, Deepak is found to be locked in a glass tank connected to harmful chemicals. Subhash and his tech friend expose him as a rapist to the public via an online gaming link, where the public can virtually try to shoot at Deepak in order to release the chemicals into the tank and eventually kill him. His father hires hackers to stop this, and when Deepak's location is found, he goes there and breaks open the tank to release him, but the chemicals instantly blow up, and he is killed. Meanwhile, Subhash also threatens Saarangan to check on his teenage daughter's safety. Saarangan panics but is relieved when she is found to be safe. Saarangan realises his mistake and decides to support Subhash in his fight for justice for the rape and murder victims.
The public is allowed to release chemicals remotely, which will result in Deepak's death. Deepak's father hires [[hacker|hackers]] to stop this. Deepak is located, and when his father breaks open the glass to release him, the chemicals are combined and Deepak is killed. In the meantime, Subhash warns Saarangan to check on his teenage daughter's safety. Saarangan panics but is relieved when he finds her to be safe. Saarangan realises his hypocrisy and changes his corrupt mind and decides to support Subhash to fight for justice for the victims of the boys. Abhijit's father, Sanjay, has Subhash released from custody, intending to make a deal.


Now that only Abhijit is left, his father, Sanjay, decides to release Subhash from custody and deal with him alone. Subhash tactfully kidnaps Abhijit and has him hanging on a rope. He also threatens to upload the video evidence online and expose their crimes, thereby bringing Sanjay's business empire down. He gives Sanjay an ultimatum that he could either hold on to the rope and save his son or let go and shut down the laptop instead, to save his reputation. In the end, the power-hungry Sanjay decides to save his reputation and lets go of the rope, killing Abhijit.
Subhash kidnaps Abhijit and dangles him from a rope at a great height; he threatens to publicise the recovered video evidence of the boys' crimes, thereby ruining Sanjay and his reputation. Sanjay is given a chance to prevent this by shutting down a computer, but he would have to let go of the rope. Sanjay does so, and lets his son fall to his death to preserve his reputation. One year later, Subhash has now cleared the Civil Services Exam and has become an [[Indian Police Service|IPS]] officer, and continues to [[Vigilantism|murder unconvictable lawbreakers to serve justice]].

Adanga Maru (transl. Refuse to concede) is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Karthik Thangavel in his directorial debut. The film stars Ravi Mohan and Raashii Khanna, with Ponvannan, Babu Antony, Sampath Raj, Azhagam Perumal, Bharath Raj, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Munishkanth, Mime Gopi and Subbu Panchu in supporting roles. It revolves around an egoistic cop who resigns from his job and becomes a ruthless vigilante after his family is murdered.

Adanga Maru began production in December 2017 and was almost complete by May 2018. The music was composed by Sam C. S., with cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Ruben. The film was released on 21 December 2018 to positive reviews from critics and became a commercial success.[2]

Plot[edit | edit source]

Subhash is a honest, newly appointed SI in Chennai. He is sympathetic to the public's suffering and tries to improve their lives, but he hates dishonest, corrupt and arrogant people. These efforts sometimes conflict with the law and cause Subhash trouble with his superior, Inspector Muthukaruppan. One day, during a night patrol, Subhash argues with the Chief Minister's son when he refuses to park his car at the checking place, and the Chief Minister's son shows his arrogance before trying to attack Subash. SI Chandran, Subash's supporter, intervenes in the argument and apologises to the Chief Minister's son on Subash's behalf, which enrages Subhash. As a consequence, Subash assaults the Chief Minister's son and his friends at a bar, without leaving any evidence.

Called to investigate a girl's suspected suicide, Subhash deduces that she was murdered and gathers evidence. He confronts Abhijith, a boy whose mobile phone was active near the crime scene, as well as Abhijith's friends, Christy, Bhuvanesh, and Deepak. The boys reveal that they are spoilt brats from affluent families and they had committed the rape and murder of several other girls, avoiding the consequences due to their parents' privilege. Abhijith is the son of a prominent media mogul, Sanjay, while Bhuvanesh is the son of the District Collector Gnanasekharan of Chennai city. Christy is the son of a gold merchant Francis, and Deepak is the son of a scientist. The boys show Subhash a video of them assaulting the girl, and he becomes enraged and arrests them.

Corrupt JCP Saarangan asks Subhash for proof of the crimes, but the videos have been deleted, and the boys are released while Subhash is suspended from duty. The boys vow revenge, and Subhash returns home to discover his extended family has been murdered, except for one niece. Saarangan, who has been bribed with a Porsche Cayenne Car, declares that the deaths resulted from an accidental fire. Subhash resigns, defiantly telling Saarangan that he will avenge his family by ensuring that the four boys die at the hands of their fathers. Bhuvan is kidnapped by Subhash and locked in a car booby trapped with inflammable silane gas. His father opens the car door and witnesses Bhuvan burn alive in front of him.

Subhash then kidnaps Deepak and Christy and hides them. The corrupt police try to detain Subash secretly, but he triggers Muthukaruppan's pistol, which attracts public attention and forces them to arrest him officially. While in custody, Subhash reveals to Christy's father that Christy is in a van at the airport. The father finds Christy and tells him to run to the police for help, but Subhash had placed an illegal firearm in Christy's bag along with a beeping device. The National Security Guards mistake Christy for a terrorist and fatally shoot him. With technical help from Subhash's friend, Deepak's crimes are exposed on the Internet, and a live video feed shows him inside a glass tank.

The public is allowed to release chemicals remotely, which will result in Deepak's death. Deepak's father hires hackers to stop this. Deepak is located, and when his father breaks open the glass to release him, the chemicals are combined and Deepak is killed. In the meantime, Subhash warns Saarangan to check on his teenage daughter's safety. Saarangan panics but is relieved when he finds her to be safe. Saarangan realises his hypocrisy and changes his corrupt mind and decides to support Subhash to fight for justice for the victims of the boys. Abhijit's father, Sanjay, has Subhash released from custody, intending to make a deal.

Subhash kidnaps Abhijit and dangles him from a rope at a great height; he threatens to publicise the recovered video evidence of the boys' crimes, thereby ruining Sanjay and his reputation. Sanjay is given a chance to prevent this by shutting down a computer, but he would have to let go of the rope. Sanjay does so, and lets his son fall to his death to preserve his reputation. One year later, Subhash has now cleared the Civil Services Exam and has become an IPS officer, and continues to murder unconvictable lawbreakers to serve justice.

    In December 2017, Ravi Mohan announced on social media that his 23rd film would be an action-thriller titled Adanga Maru by first-time director Karthik Thangavel. Filming began the same day.[4] Raashii Khanna was announced as the female lead, this being her second Tamil film after Imaikkaa Nodigal (2018). Stunt choreographer Stun Siva's son, Kevin Kumar, made his debut as a stunt choreographer in this film.[5] Filming was almost completed in May 2018.[6]

    Soundtrack[edit | edit source]

    The soundtrack was composed by Sam C. S.[7] The audio rights were acquired by Sony Music in August 2018.[citation needed] The first single "Aangu Vangu" was released on 10 September 2018.[8] The complete album was released on 6 October 2018.[9]
