Shweta also known as Shweta is the wife of Dusshasana and mother of Drumasena and Bharata in folklores. She is one of the antagonists of the epic Mahabharata and she is the second daughter in law of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari. She is a good friend of Vrushali, Karna's wife.

Shweta is a prominent character in the epic Mahabharata. She is known basically as the wife of Dusshasana. She is the only one who is a mother Drumasena and his brother Bharat. In the Mahabharata, Dusshasana's wife is mentioned four or five times, the complexion of beauty after Mayuri, Duryodhana's wife and she was a Yuvarani of Hastinapura, capital of the Kuru Kingdom.

She is mentioned in the Shanti Parva about her marriage and kidnappings and in Stri Parva, Shweta lose Dussashan. After the death of Duryodhana, Shweta committed Sati.

Marriage of Duryodhana and Mayuri

Story

King Vasantraj had held a Swayamvara in which warriors like Dushasana, Duryodhana, Karna, Veerasena, Ashwayudha, and many other warriors were invited. The princes began to laugh at Dushasana and thought that Princess Shweta will only put the garland on them. The princess came with a beautiful garland in her hand and was choosing a man who will be suitable for her but when she came to Dushasana, she refused to marry him. Dushasana refused to accept her rejection and forcefully held her hands and put the garland in his neck and kidnapped her. All the prince's were about to attack him but Karna and Duryodhan said to Dushasana that they'll handle these warriors and so on, after defeating the princes, Karna,Duryodhana and Dushasana came on the chariot and took Princess Shweta to Hastinapura and the poor princess accepted to marry Dushasana. Their marriage was celebrated with Peace and Harmony.

In the Mahabharata

She was described by her mother-in-law Gandhari,Dushasan loved his wife Shweta so much. Dushasana and Shweta had two children: Drumasena and Bharat. Gandhari describes her daughter in law to Krishna,
