Rao Laxmi Chand was an Yaduvanshi Ahir King of Delhi. He was the Leader of the Indian rebellion of 1857 in Delhi.

Early Life

Rao Laxmi Chand was born in Najafgarh in Royal Yaduvanshi Ahir family.

Battle of Delhi

Rao Laxmi Chand forces, which were led by his cousin Prank Sukh Yadav, fought against the British on 16 November 1857 in the field of Rajpath. The first charge of Rao Laxmi Chand forces was irresistible and the British forces scattered before them; several British officers were killed or wounded.

The British successfully retaliated and after the battle of Delhi Rao Laxmi Chand moved in to Rajasthan and joined the force of Tantia Tope for one year but the forces of the Tantia Tope were defeated by British forces in the battle of Sikar in Rajasthan. [1]

Death

On 23 December 1857, He died in Rajpath in Delhi at the age of 37 fighting against the British and refusing to work for them.

Legacy

Government of Delhi named a highway on the name Shaheed Rao Laxmi Chand Marg. A park named on Rao Laxmi Chand is also in Delhi.
