Being one of the major Diesel Loco Sheds in the Northern Railway zone various major and minor maintenance of Diesel locomotives are carried out here. Diesel Loco Shed, Tughlakabad is also the one and only shed that holds the WDP-1 class of locomotives. Like all the other sheds DLS TKD does regular overhauling, washing and painting of locomotives. It provides a regular link of diesel locomotives to the unelectrified areas of all the railway zones of Indian Railways.
History
It was established in the year 1970 with a planned holding of 80 locomotives and initial holding of 26 WDM-2 locomotives. This shed is the pioneer in the field of Quality Systems in the Railways and is the first unit of Mechanical Engineering Department of Northern Railway to be certified for ISO-9002.
Livery and Markings
DLS TKD has its own beautiful scheme of Diesel locomotives. It has different colour schemes for different class of diesel locomotives. The shed mainly uses stencils for identification of the locos. The text "TKD" is written in bold letters on loco's back and front.
