After the efforts of Jung-e-Azadi, an important character who was close to Mahatma Gandhi and [[Maulana Mazharul Haq]], his elder brother Hamid Chishti left the British and joined the fight for independence. Hamdi was jailed several times. Due to this, Chishti House became a hideout for those seeking independence from British rule.
